UCLA Women Three-peat — 100th Championship for UCLA Athletics
waterpoloreport
Stanford looked lethargic for 3 quarters, with UCLA going into the 4th quarter 4-1. Stanford rallied to come within one 5-4 but the Bruins hung on.
Official Story to follow but here are the facts:
1. UCLA won its 3rd in a row
2. The win gives UCLA athletics its 100th NCAA championship, an amazing feat. That fact is this win will give water polo some extra publicity the sport would not get otherwise.
3. Courtney Mathewson is hardly the most famous player on the UCLA team but two years in a row has been the most clutch. She had a hat-trick today.
4. Stands were packed. (good job)
5. I hate to say it, but this looks like a DYNASTY. Besides USC’s one NCAA championship and Stanford’s one NCAA championship in between, UCLA has won them all since becoming an NCAA sport.
